The Toronto Blue Jays have traded left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ to the
Seattle Mariners for left-fielder Michael Saunders, a native of Victoria,
B.C. The trade was initially reported by Jayson Stark of ESPN, and has been
confirmed by the National Post.
The upshot of the deal: Melky Cabrera’s time with the Blue Jays is likely
over, while Aaron Sanchez will likely take Happ’s vacated spot in the
rotation.
Saunders will likely be the Blue Jays’ everyday left fielder, taking over
for Cabrera, a free agent whom the Blue Jays extended a qualifying offer. The
Jays would receive a compensatory draft pick should Cabrera leave as a free
agent. Saunders would play next to Jose Bautista in right and a mystery man
in centre — Dalton Pompey, Kevin Pillar and Ezequiel Carrera, signed to a
minor-league deal on Wednesday, are the top candidates, although the team
could make another move to shore up the position.
*Melkman到底會不會留下來呢??
