We're running out of steam with covering former first-round pick Royce White.
White didn't play a single game for the Rockets last season, and bucked at
having to play in the D-League, feuding with the team about "treatment" for
his social anxiety the whole season. White was traded to the 76ers and former
Rockets assistant GM Sam Hinkie over the summer, and talked about getting
things right this year.
The Sixers are headed overseas for preseason, and White had assured media he
would be making the trip, despite a high level of anxiety over air travel.
Yeah... not so much.
Bob Cooney:Not with Sixers in Europe, but source says Royce White did not make
trip.
White, who suffers from anxiety disorder, planned to make the
flight but team "gave him a pass," source told me.
This could be just a goodwill effort by the team, it could be a sign the team
plans to waive him. It could be just a conditioning issue. But it is notable
that White's first chance to start putting his career right and show he's not
the problem he was in Houston has now come and gone with a miss.
I wrote about my own experiences with the condition last year, and said that
there was a good chance White won't make it. That percentage keeps going up
and up as White's decision making continues to compromise his NBA future.
