Stan Wawrinka to skip Montreal and Cincinnati due to ongoing knee injury

In the last 24 hours Montreal event received a beautiful news, it means Roger
Federer confirming his partecipation there, and a bad news, it means Stan
Wawrinka missing Rogers Cup and also Cincinnati, the two Masters 1000 events
that will be played in the next two weeks.
The Swiss player hasn't fully recovered from the right knee injury yet that
influenced him already last month in his first round loss to Daniil Medvedev.
'After much backwards and forwards and consultations with my doctors and my
team unfortunately I have decided to skip Canada and Cincinnati to be on the
safe side even though I've been battling hard to make these events', the
Swiss player said through his official Facebook page. 'Hugely disappointing
for my fans and myself that I have to make this decision, but I need to be
100 per cent confident before I resume competition till the injury that
plagued me in Wimbeldon has been resolved.
My team and I are doing everything possible to make this a speedy recovery.'
Last year Wawrinka reached semifinals in Montreal and third round in
Cincinnati, which means he loses 450 points in total. He will be World No.
4 at least until US Open, where last year he won the title. He will have to
try to defend 2,000 points in the last Grand Slam event of the season that
starts on 28 August.
