[選]工作要求：這是我在政大台灣史研究所的碩士論文，因為我是美國人，我用英文寫，
但是學校規定要交中文稿。論文的題目是Behind the Miracle: Human Development,
Inequality, and Sustainability in Taiwan, 1970-2012，我把它翻成《奇蹟的背後：
台灣的人類發展，不平等與永續性，1970-2012年》。內容分三章，第一章已經有人在
翻譯，但是第二章剛寫完，有大概一萬個英文字。還有，第三章我還在寫；由於時間很
緊迫，我需要邊寫邊翻譯。我不知道第三章會有多少字，但肯定會少於一萬。第二章
和第三章可以由不同的人來翻譯，或是幾個人合作也可以，只要品質夠好而且能在期限
以前交稿。請有興趣的譯者翻譯下面的試譯文並寄到我的電子信箱。謝謝！

[選]試 譯 文：The Taiwanese soon discovered that the KMT administration
in charge of taking over the island was even worse than the Japanese
sotokofu (governor-general's office) had been. Chen Yi, the new
governor, monopolized executive, legislative, and judicial authority:
no one could stop him or his cronies from abusing their power. The
takeover he oversaw was a devil-take-the-hindmost grab for whatever money,
property, and resources, the Chinese could get their hands on. Even though
they had done nothing to "liberate" Taiwan, the Nationalist soldiers
behaved like a conquering army, taking whatever "spoils" they found....
The contagion of wartime hyperinflation spread from China to Taiwan despite
Taiwan's different currency, and the KMT sent so much food back to China
(due to the ongoing civil war) that it caused a rice famine on an island
that had always been an exporter of food. Things got so bad that some
Taiwanese began to advocate having the UN or the United States take control
of Taiwan; others wanted to cut all ties with China.
