Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban didn't sound optimistic about his chances
of buying a stake in the Mets during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on
Monday.
"Maybe. It's interesting," Cuban said. "I'd like it. It'd be a cool idea. But
I don't think it's going to happen simply because it'd require writing an
$800 million or more check. It's a big check, right?"

Mets owner Fred Wilpon announced in January that would consider selling up to
25 percent of the franchise because of the uncertainty created by the Bernie
Madoff Ponzi scheme. The Mets were among the investors who profited in that
scheme, and were named in a lawsuit filed by a trustee assigned to recoup
losses in the case.
"The whole situation with the Mets and everything ... I don't think it's
going to happen," Cuban told Kimmel. "I think they might put it out to bid if
they have to sell it, and I'm just not going to go through that process."
Cuban was among those interested in buying the Chicago Cubs in 2008, and he
was a finalist in the auction for the Texas Rangers last summer. He came up
short in each of those attempts.
