There is not much difference between 'a lot of' and 'lots of': they are both
used mainly before singular uncountable and plural nouns, and before pronouns.

PEU說a lot of後接單數不可數名詞、複數名詞、複數代名詞
（pronouns應該指是這個意思吧？）
(更新：我現在覺得pronouns應該是指各種代名詞，而非複數代名詞)

你理解a lot of the play的方式錯了底下母語者的回答是對的。a lot of不見得是在說有很多某某事物，也可以被用來指單一事物中的一大部分(尤其當那個對象是可以被分割的時候(按比例切，不是按數量，不然後面的verb agreement會出問題

你知道There's a lot of後面也可以接可數名詞嗎?比a lot of 可數開頭這個我覺得更沒邏輯，但大家都習慣了A lot of可以解釋成sunny大說的「一大部分」，there's alot of往往就是指稱複數。外國老師說大家就講慣了
