關於acknowledge的字義,我覺得應該查詢一下
字典的解釋,最好是那種英文解釋英文的純英文
字典。另外,也應該區別一下英語字典跟美語字
典可能有些微的字義差異。實際上澳洲英語的字
義可能會跟英國英語的差別,來得比美國英語的
差別更大。
由於中美建交公報是「美式英文─簡體中文」的
兩種文本,所以在確認外交用語的字義上若要做
到精確、有效的程度,就應該回歸到正確的語言
字典。下面我查了4個字典,其中科林氏字典有
區分美國用法和英國用法,感覺上美國的用法,
acknowledge的字義似乎確實比較沒有「承認」
的意味,而是「接受、了解」的意味較重。不過
其他3種字典則有些有查詢到「承認」的意思。
我覺得這可能要對美國文學與美式英語用法進行
更深入研究,會比較能得出具體有益的詮釋。
