耶穌又開口用比喻對他們說：
「天國好比一個國王，為自己的兒子辦婚宴。
他打發僕人去召被請的人來赴婚宴，他們卻不願意來。
又派其他的僕人去，說：
你們對被請的人說：
看，我已經預備好了我的盛宴，
我的公牛和肥畜都宰殺了，
一切都齊備了，你們來赴婚宴罷！
他們卻不理：
有的往自己的田裡去了，有的作自己的生意去了；
其餘的竟拿住他的僕人，淩辱後殺死了。
國王於是動了怒，派自己的軍隊消滅了那些殺人的兇手，焚毀了他們的城市。
然後對僕人說：
婚宴已經齊備了，但是被請的人都不配。
如今你們到各路口去，凡是你們所遇到的，都請來赴婚宴。
那些僕人就出去到大路上，凡遇到的，無論壞人好人，都召集了來，
婚宴上就滿了坐席的人。
國王進來巡視坐席的客人，看見在那裡有一個沒有穿婚宴禮服的人，
便對他說：
朋友，你怎麼到這裡來，不穿婚宴禮服？那人默然無語。
國王遂對僕役說：
你們捆起他的腳和手來，把他丟在外面的黑暗中：
在那裡要有哀號和切齒。
因為被召的人多，被選的人少。」
Gospel MT 22:1-14
Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests
and the elders of the people in parables saying,
"The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king
who gave a wedding feast for his son.
He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast,
but they refused to come.
A second time he sent other servants, saying,
'Tell those invited:
"Behold, I have prepared my banquet,
my calves and fattened cattle are killed,
and everything is ready; come to the feast."'
Some ignored the invitation and went away,
one to his farm, another to his business.
The rest laid hold of his servants,
mistreated them, and killed them.
The king was enraged and sent his troops,
destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Then the king said to his servants,
'The feast is ready,
but those who were invited were not worthy to come.
Go out, therefore, into the main roads
and invite to the feast whomever you find.'
The servants went out into the streets
and gathered all they found, bad and good alike,
and the hall was filled with guests.
But when the king came in to meet the guests
he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
He said to him,
'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?'
But he was reduced to silence.
Then the king said to his attendants,
'Bind his hands and feet,
and cast him into the darkness outside,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'
Many are invited, but few are chosen."
福音朗読 マタイによる福音書 22章1-14節
（そのとき、イエスは、祭司や民の長老たちに）
たとえを用いて語られた。
「天の国は、ある王が王子のために婚宴を催したのに似ている。
王は家来たちを送り、婚宴に招いておいた人々を呼ばせたが、
来ようとしなかった。
そこでまた、次のように言って、別の家来たちを使いに出した。
『招いておいた人々にこう言いなさい。
「食事の用意が整いました。
牛や肥えた家畜を屠って、すっかり用意ができています。
さあ、婚宴においでください。」』
しかし、
人々はそれを無視し、一人は畑に、一人は商売に出かけ、
また、他の人々は王の家来たちを捕まえて乱暴し、殺してしまった。
そこで、王は怒り、軍隊を送って、
この人殺しどもを滅ぼし、その町を焼き払った。
そして、家来たちに言った。
『婚宴の用意はできているが、
招いておいた人々は、ふさわしくなかった。
だから、町の大通りに出て、
見かけた者はだれでも婚宴に連れて来なさい。』
そこで、家来たちは通りに出て行き、
見かけた人は善人も悪人も皆集めて来たので、
婚宴は客でいっぱいになった。
王が客を見ようと入って来ると、
婚礼の礼服を着ていない者が一人いた。
王は、『友よ、どうして礼服を着ないでここに入って来たのか』と言った。
この者が黙っていると、
王は側近の者たちに言った。
『この男の手足を縛って、外の暗闇にほうり出せ。
そこで泣きわめいて歯ぎしりするだろう。』
招かれる人は多いが、選ばれる人は少ない。」
